Arts
Art and essay contest for local elementary school children. Theme for the contest in 2006 was Jamestown. The work was displayed at the Autumn Jamboree, a town-sponsored event held every September.
A photography contest, Bluefield, VA in Pictures, was open to middle school students, high school students, and adults living, working or attending school in Bluefield, VA. There were 41 entries which were displayed in the new Town Hall during December, 2006 and viewed by many including over 100 individuals who attended the Town’s volunteer Christmas dinner and employees who attended their Christmas dinner.
Decorating one room of the Sanders House for the Christmas Open House has become a tradition for the Woman’s Club. It is an honor to be a part of this local event.Education
Cookbooks are being collected to be donated to parents of local Headstart children. This will encourage both reading and nutritious home-prepared meals as a alternative to fast food meals.
The Irma Nunn Webb Scholarship is given annually to a graduating senior from Graham High School. In October, 2006 the club had a spaghetti dinner and raised over $1000.00 for the scholarship fund.

Mercer Health Right is supported by the collection of used, empty prescription medicine containers.
Bluefield Union Mission receives nonperishable food items which are collected at each meeting.
Meeting programs have focused on such issues as Alzheimer’s Disease, nutrition, availability of local medical services for low-income individuals, and services for senior citizens.

A businesswoman from the former Soviet Union spoke with our group.
Public Affairs
Meeting programs have featured mayors, town managers, and county officials at times.
Club members have provided refreshments for public meetings at which candidates for Town Council spoke. Club members as a group have attended meetings regarding important local issues such as the location of the new Town Hall.Other
Our cake walk at the Autumn Jamboree every September provides a fun activity for the event. We especially enjoy the big smiles on the faces of children who win cakes.
